The night passed with our cruise ship still getting tossed and battered by huge waves, spray mixed with rain, swirling around, blown by a powerful whistling wind. I slept quite fitfully as I was moving from side to side in the bed in time with the waves, our loose belongings in our cabin were thrown around and we were up several times during the night to replace them in secure spots.
The ship, riding these huge waves was tossed from side to side, during this extreme weather, and we had great difficulty maintaining our balance as we moved around. We had breakfast on the Verandah deck, there were waiters around in force to attend to our needs and we were able to enjoy a leisurely meal. Our meal was interrupted by an announcement from the Captain informing everyone that he was turning the ship to allow for a helicopter to land on board to remove an injured passenger, and the swell and movement would get worse. This was a timely piece of advice, as the surge, when this maneuver occurred was incredible, the crashes and the sound of broken crockery coming from all directions.
We made our way to the Britannia lounge to attend a very informative talk on two of our upcoming destinations, Agadir and Casablanca.
During our lunch the Captain updated everyone on the weather situation and the changes this had made to our itinerary. We will arrive in Lisbon later than planned and we will be berthed there overnight, our welcome aboard party will be postponed and held while we are there. I am quite happy with this new situation, Margaret and I will be going ashore in the afternoon on a trip and it will be nice to come back and dress up for a party.
The inclement weather continued, relentlessly battering the ship, and our movement from one area to another was still very tricky.
The main topic of conversation during our excellent dinner in the evening was this interminable spell of rough sea weather. Not one, of our very experienced cruising and dining companions, can ever remember a spell of continuous bad weather, lasting quite this long. Nevertheless the food again was first-class, the conversation sparkling and we all enjoyed a very long, leisurely, memorable, dining experience.
Margaret and I decided to skip the evening show and retire to our cabin. With the wind and rain making their presence felt, it was still very difficult to safely move around the ship, the security of our cabin and our bed was easily the best option.
