With the waves still very rough, and the sea swell very strong, our Captain, Phillip Rentell has decided to stay put for the time being, and await a window of opportunity before attempting to leave this very picturesque harbour. The wind is very strong, and with a bright deceptive sunshine beaming through the windows and the ships stabilisers doing their job, we are quite comfortable on board.
Margaret and I attended an interesting informative talk, about the final upcoming port we will be visiting, La Coruna in Spain. There was a round of applause, as the Captain announced over the tannoy speaker system, he was about to attempt to turn our ship and leave Gomera harbour. A few minutes later our destinations lecturer, Peter Smith, cheerfully announced to one and all, the ship was actually moving, this was confirmed by the Captain, and at 11.15am we were on our way to Funchal in Madeira, to see the New Year in, with their spectacular annual fireworks display.
We were served an interesting Oriental meal in the dining room in the evening, the waiters were clothed in traditional Oriental garments and the food was beautifully prepared. Following this gastronomic experience we spent some time in the Britannia lounge, before joining our friends Joy and Janet in the Drawing room. We finished our day at sea with a very congenial chat listening to the sounds of The Perfect Mood Duo, before saying goodnight to Joy and Janet and retiring to our cabin to read, then sleep.
