The ship sailed into Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, a very busy harbour, at 8.00am. Margaret and I have an early start today, as we are booked to visit Puerto de Mogan, a small resort on the island where we plan to swim and spend a few leisurely hours on our own.
Puerto de Mogan, Gran Canaria.
We reached Puerto de Mogan where we were informed of the point to meet the coach for our return journey and emphatically told not to be late or we could be left behind. The weather was quite cloudy and cool, not warm enough to enjoy our planned swim. We strolled through a huge flea market with many stalls and many local people shopping.
Puerto de Mogan is popularly known as Little Venice, there are many small, flower-bedecked bridges over numerous canals, with flowering bougainvillea shrubs and plants cascading from the balconies of the buildings everywhere. There are huge cliffs forming a giant wall along one side of the resort, adding a natural stark beauty to the whole sensational, seaside splendour of this beautiful island.
Margaret and I, together with several of our fellow passengers, met up with the Social hostess to be escorted to the Captain’s table. The Captain arrived and we were seated at table, then followed an excellent meal, with some nice anecdotes, and very good conversation. We got to know our Captain a little better, and our dining companions were a good mix of very nice people.
After our memorable dining experience, we took our seats in the Britannia lounge and enjoyed a lovely performance from Maria Lyn, a lady from Wales, with a beautiful voice and a nice personality. A performer who engaged with her audience and sang beautiful songs ranging from Classical opera numbers to funny popular songs.
Then, to our cabin, to sleep and dream.
