A day moored in the picturesque port of La Gomera, unable to proceed with our journey. Due to very high winds and rough waters, our Captain has decided that caution is the best way forward. We have leave to go ashore, and shuttle buses to the town centre have been arranged, Margaret and I spent a very quiet day aboard ship, reading and relaxing, we have decided to stay put and enjoy the pleasure of an unplanned day on board. We attended a talk given by the destinations lecturer on the upcoming port of Oppoto in Portugal, and had lunch in the Verandah restaurant. We took part in a quiz in the Drawing room where we met Janet, one of our dining companions and we enjoyed tea and cake together.
Later, we enjoyed a long leisurely dinner with our full complement seated at the table, the food was excellent as usual, and the conversation flowed along many interesting lines of thought and speculation, about our day in port and our departure in the morning.
The Captain of the vessel stays his course,
Departure dependant on the force of Nature.
Wind whips and swirls the wild water.
Wind whips and swirls the wild water,
The large ship sits in port delayed.
Waiting for the weather to turn.
When the large ship turns to leave
The rear will swing to the rocky shore,
Waiting for the weather to turn.
Hour by hour, waiting for a lull,
A break of calmness and windless waves,
Wind whips and swirls the wild water.
The powerless vessel calmly waiting,
Paying homage to powerful forces
Waiting for the weather to turn.
The Captain with patience, calmly waits
For a window of opportunity
Wind whips and swirls the wild water,
Waiting for the weather to turn.
